Desert Ironwood is a dense wood with spectacular color definition. Ranging from a darker red brown color, it often has hues of orangish yellow included. The sapwood can be a yellow color and has a dramatic transition, giving the pen an almost two-tone effect. The wood is dense and difficult to turn on the lathe, but the results are worth it. Some pieces can have dramatic grain, be almost twisted with even some dramatic voids. It is a beautifull wood and in short supply and high demand. The wood originates from the Southeastern US.
